MUSIC PROGRAM
Thank you for your interest in the ArtlyMus Music Program!
Formly known as “The Piano Resource” of Mililani, Hawaii. The original music studio was founded in 1994.
Some students have proudly gone on to study music, or graduated with music diplomas, from: the University of Hawaii, Leeward Community College, University of Oregon, Interlochen Center for the Arts, to name a few.
Some of the other students -that I know of- have graduated with, or are working on, their undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate diplomas in Architecture, Social Services, Psychology, International Business, Accounting, Engineering, Optometry, Radiology, Family Resources, Forensics. “Go for it!” Many students are keeping in touch as they start career and families from such places as Las Vegas, San Francisco! If you are a past student as well, contact me via e-mail and let me know how you are doing. Perhaps we may find the time soon to start sharing our life stories!
Students come from schools around the island including: Aiea, Le Jardin, Iolani, Kamehameha, Maryknoll, Mid-Pacific Institute, Moanalua, Mililani, Salt Lake, Punahou, Waiau, Kamehameha Kapalama, Kapalama, Royal, Kawananakoa, Ma’ema’e, St. Andrew’s Priory, Holy Family Catholic Academy, University of Hawaii.
Philosophy: Using a traditional, classical piano teaching approach to foster music appreciation and develop musical skills such as, but not limited to: performance, theory, eye-hand coordination, pitch, rhythm, aural skills, technique, discipline (practice!), problem solving, performance recital (optional but highly encouraged for “life-lesson” learning to cope with confrontational situations such as group speaking, interviews), and peer interaction (group workshops). The purpose is not to CREATE STARS (but if your child shows he/she may have serious potential, I may refer to my organizational music teacher contacts who do)! Some serious students that had learned the basics with me and were referred have gone on to win state music competitions, and go on to consistently rank in top percentiles in Piano Guild. I am also a music educator, trained and certified in various philosophies/methods: Orff-Schulwerk, Suzuki (including Music Mind Games), Kodaly, Dalcroze, with some general education experience with Special Needs students. The piano lesson is guided by using established methods and ideas modified to the individual student’s needs using, in general, the Alfred Piano Course and/or Faber Piano Course, and a personally chosen supplemental repertoire from a proven system developed through years of teaching. Basically, I require the student do some finger exercises, classical repertoire, and also encourage fun music of the student’s choice that he/she can relate to.

ArtlyMus provides music opportunities. Many students are able to use key life lessons learned and have developed an appreciation for music that they continue to enjoy in their everyday lives.
MUSIC IS LIFELONG! Long after the toys of childhood are forgotten, the joys of music shall remain. -Author Unknown
There are 2 Music Programs:
NEW! Keyboard Prep, ages 4-6, small group classes of 2 or 3 students.
This is a Keyboard Preparatory Course that introduces basic music concepts to the child. This course enhances PreK and K school music class learning. The structured lessons may help the child prepare for other, or future, disciplined music study such as violin, piano, and/or ukulele.
Ongoing enrollment with limited schedule availability- reserve your space today! Taking this course does not guarantee acceptance into the ArtlyMus Piano Program (see below), however, “new piano student” scheduling is given with priority to those already within the ArtlyMus Music Program. Summer Session includes Hawaiiana.
Ongoing Keyboard Preparatory Course classes are scheduled by confirmation only and there is a “list” being formed pending a group start.
Requesting groups must have 2-3 students to create a class. Or you may e-mail ArtlyMus@gmail.com an inquiry for information on joining forming or on-going confirmed classes.
Students meet once a week for 30-minutes and the current cost per lesson for each newly enrolled student at the keyboard class rate is $25.00/30-minute class.
Private Piano Lessons, ages 6 to Adult. No experience needed to start. If your child is 5 1/2, please contact me when you are available to speak (about a 10-20-minute talk on average), and I hope to be able to answer your questions and discuss your options.
At least a 60+, Full-sized keys keyboard (each key is the same size as the standard, acoustic piano key) is recommended to start.
These are PRIVATE piano lessons. Parents/contacts are asked to drop-off or wait for the student outside and are asked to wait outside the room unless prior notice and consent of the instructor is given. There are regularly scheduled evaluations/observations and the parents/contacts are asked to please observe a lesson at this time.
There is one free initial consultation given should you register to start. Students must pass an initial enrollment period of 6-8 weeks to be accepted into the private lesson piano program. This is to done to best assess the teacher-student relationship forming by using the traditional teaching method and instructor’s teaching style/philosophy. An observation/evaluation day is scheduled for parent(s)/contact(s) to come into the classroom at the end of this period for discussion.
Students meet once a week for 30-minutes and the current cost per lesson for each newly enrolled student at the regular private lesson rate is $30.00/30-minute lesson. “Multiple family member rate” is $25.00/30-minute lesson per each student. Once you are admitted at a certain rate, your cost increases by percentage change and is re-assessed on June of each year. Private lesson fees are set to be re-assessed in July 2020. To give you an idea of how this works, for currently enrolled students, an increase was set to start on September 2015, but the actual increase is now effective as of February 1, 2017. For most students, their last rate increase was in 2013. Please read the ArtlyMus Studio policies for more details.
Saturday piano lesson times are in demand. Currently Accepting Piano Registration requests for weekdays. There is a “wait list” for Saturday requests, and current students within the program will be given priority time scheduling.
Thank you for your patience and supporting our Ohana.
