Inaugural Calendar 2011
This Calendar was the very first calendar year posted to our website! It is just a glimpse of the experiences the students enjoy throughout a typical year and the creative opportunities that we share.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ArtlyMus! We celebrated in February learning and having fun with music and art for over a year now. It is such a blessing to see the growth in the students. To my returning students from The Piano Resource (Mililani, Aiea): Welcome Back!
In March, we held our annual MANDATORY PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP to help ready the students for their recital performances.
March Community Giving Projects: Arcadia Retirement, Hale Ku’ike.
On March 21 @ Arcadia Retirement at 4:30 PM. and on April 16 @ Hale Ku’ike at 2:30 PM, we held two very successful and rewarding programs for the residents of these two retirement care homes. Did you know that Mrs. Yamas used to breed/raise Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and is also a volunteer of the Hawaii Humane Society Pet Visitation Program? Pictured here at Hale Ku’ike with extended family are: Joanne Libarios and Ki’inani (grandpup,) with Vita, Director of Pet Therapy (labradoodle in left-corner, foreground.)
Thank you goes to the two program coordinators, Michele Muta and Jill Martinez, for their support and referrals.
The students performed very well at these events and I am so proud of them! We had a family with Sanshin skills playing a song for the audience at Arcadia and special thanks (Ippee Nifee Deebiru!) goes to Sensei, Okinawa Minyo Kyokai Derek Ichiro Shiroma Kenkyusho, for performing and supporting the music sharing. Congratulations goes to Advanced Piano Student, Carrie, a recent high school graduate, for returning to lessons (not her fault) and completing her goal of performing Pachelbel’s Canon In D with distinction.
April and May were a blur with many activities. We held our Annual Evaluations/Observations Week and it was really nice to spend some time talking with the Parents/Contacts and dreaming our dreams for our music futures. MCS Elementary School and Chorus Spring Fling 2011 Performances were a great success as the children shared their classroom music making skills with the staff, their parents, alumni, and the community. Kapalama Elementary School held a May Day Program with all of the grades performing a cultural song. Kapalama Rocks! Working with the program developed by Dr. Karen Miyamoto and my mentor, Camilla Corpuz Yamamoto, was an honor and they (Mrs. Dang, Mrs. DeBusca, teachers, staff,) will be missed as Dr. Miyamoto moves to Makalapa Elementary School and I take a leave to build the home art and music studios. Spring was also busy for teachers with the various annual music/art organizations’ HMEA Conference, HOSA Workshop, SCBWI Conferences.
